The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme was launched with the objectives (i) to improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age-group 0-6 years;(ii) to lay the foundation for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child; (iii) to reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school dropout; (iv) to achieve effective co-ordination of policy and implementation amongst the various departments to promote child development; and (v) to enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through proper nutrition and health education. In order to achieve these objectives, a package of six services namely (i) supplementary nutrition (SNP), (ii) immunization, (iii) health check-up, (iv) referral services, (v) pre-school non-formal education and (vi) nutrition & health education are provided. Three of the six services namely Immunisation, Health Check-up and Referral Services are delivered through Public Health Infrastruction under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare
Poshan Abhiyaan is a multi-sdoial convergence mission with the vision to ensure attainment of malnutrition free India by 2022. The objective of POSHAN Abhiyaan to reduce stunting in identified Districts of India with the highest malnutrition burden by improving utilization of key Anganwadi Services and improving the quality of Anganwadi Services delivery. Its aim to ensure holistic development and adequate nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and children. Poshan Pakhwada was celebrated on March across many districts of the country to mark the first anniversary of Poshan Abhiyaan. The Month of September was celebrated as Rashtriya POSHAN Maah. The activities in POSHAN Maah focussed on Social Behavioural Change and Communication (SBCC). The broad themes were: antenatal care, optimal breastfeeding (early and exclusive), complementary feeding, anaemia, growth monitoring, girls’ - education, diet, right age of marriage, hygiene and sanitation, eating healthy - food fortification.

This Programme was organized by the DPO of ICDS West Jaintia Hills District, Child Development Project Officers (CDPO) of Amlarem, Laskein and Thadlaskein respectively along with the presence of different departments, students, teachers, Anganwadi workers (AWW) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWH) of the nearby village.
